Between August 2003 and April 2009 I’ve attended 50 official WCA competitions. The first tournament I’ve been to was the 2003 World Rubik’s Games Championship in Toronto, which marked the resurgence of competitive cubing after it had died down in the 80’s. That first competition made a very big impression on me and for me personally it marked the start of an amazing 6 year journey that still hasn’t come to an end.
What follows is a set of photographs I’ve collected from various websites and gives an impression of my experiences during that period. For each competition I tried to find the best, funniest, most telling photo. That wasn’t always easy and here and there I had to improvise and take a picture of a souvenir that I’ve kept, like a medal or a certificate.
I wanted to let the pictures speak for themselves so I didn’t write anything about them but for the name, location and date of the event. If you hover above a picture you will still get a short description.
Making this photo set and looking back on those memories was a lot of fun and it made me realize even more why I keep doing this in the first place.
